I was so tired as I walked back to my apartment with Ivan, but I'd had such a good time I couldn't bring myself to mind. I was actually surprised at how much I had enjoyed my time spent with Newt, Benji, and Jefferson. I hadn't even minded when their husbands joined us, especially since Ivan had sat next to me.

And now he was walking me back to my place.

It was almost like we had gone on a date, but I knew that would never happen. I was damaged goods. Ivan didn't need someone like me messing up his life, but it was nice to dream for a little while.

When we reached my door, I unlocked it and pushed it open before turning to face Ivan. "Thank you for tonight. You were right. They are not bad guys."

Ivan smiled as he reached up and brushed some hair back from my face. "I'm really glad you agreed to go meet them. They are all good men, and I am proud to work for them. They might have a shit-ton of money, but they use it for good. I promise."

I was starting to believe that.

And the looks in their eyes when they looked at their husbands... I had been shocked. I wasn't sure I had ever seen people so in love with their spouses. That hadn't been my experience growing up or even as an adult.

"I want something like that someday."

Ivan's eyebrows lifted. "Money?"

I chuckled. "No, a marriage like they have."

"Did they tell you how they all ended up married?"

"No, why?" I assumed they had all fallen in love and gotten married the normal way.

"Ask them sometime. They all have very interesting stories to tell."

"They didn't fall in love and get married?"

"No." Ivan snorted. "Knox married his assistant to escape a crazy bitch intent on marrying his bank account. Burke married Benji to save Benji's nephew from a madman trying to sell him on the black market. And Crosby was drugged and woke up married to Jefferson, who was Knox's new assistant after he married Newt."

With each sentence Ivan spoke, my mouth dropped open even further. "Are you serious?"

"Even Lancaster, their in-house council, married Dalton to keep him safe from Brasov. None of those men married in a conventional way, but they all love their husbands now and couldn't be happier with how things turned out."

Huh.

"But they all look so happy together."

"They are," Ivan assured me. "You really should have them tell you about what they went through. While your situations were not the same, Newt, Benji, Jefferson, and even Dalton all went through a lot to be where they are today."

"But they married billionaires," I said. "That isn't—"

"They weren't always billionaires, you know."

I frowned. "They weren't?"

"Silver Spoons Inc. is named Silver Spoons as a reminder of where they came from and how hard they worked to get where they are. Knox, Burke, and Crosby met in college and decided they wanted to work with each other. There was a time when the three of them lived together in a studio apartment and ate Top Ramen every night.
